Barbara Burch is an interior designer who came from the Los Angeles basin and “retired” to Sedona about 12 years ago. She started her first window covering business more than 30 years ago and branched into full interior design a few years later. After selling her company located in La Habra California, Barbara came to Sedona with her husband and, at the urging of friends who enjoyed her wealth of experience and wanted to refer their friends to her, started the business, first known as “Window Blinds for Less.” Through the process of growth based on professional service and dedicated to customer satisfaction, she now co-owns Sedona Window & Flooring Solutions with her son, Mark Rippy, who has worked for the family business since the age of 16.

“It is a distinct pleasure working with my son. Being an Engineer/Paramedic for the Sedona Fire Department, he really enjoys the different pace of the window covering business. I think it is in his blood as he has been around it all of his life. The customers love working with him and his expertise in the technical aspects of the business even exceeds mine. Mark has lead the company into full motorization of all products and is instrumental in introducing exterior products into our line. You will usually find him at new construction sites working with the framer or electrician making sure our projects will be trouble free.

With Mark’s firefighter background and my design background, we approach our customers in different ways but, surprisingly, with the same results: very good design and very satisfied customers. “Our goal is to take the stress out of window design,” says Barbara. “We work with our customers on an individual basis to make certain we are giving them the products and services they need to make their homes more esthetically pleasing and functional.” She says that she “loves it” when she hears (“as I so often do”): “That was so easy! And I thought it would be so hard.”

Barbara says, “I love everything about the industry, but especially my customers. We have built this company based on outstanding customer service and competitive pricing. Coming from the L. A. basin where pricing is very competitive, we were not surprised to see the unusually high price structure that Sedona had when we first came here. We chose to bring competitive pricing to Sedona and our customers have rewarded us with their referrals and repeat business. Currently more than 70% of our sales are repeat and referral customers.”

The family run business has grown consistently during the last 10 years, and now employs Mark’s wife, Shelly, on a part time basis. Barbara says, “Shelly has been working with us over the last few years and has a great sense for the business. I consider her a real asset. She excels in all aspects of the business. The customers especially love working with her. Shelly’s natural ability for line and color and her willingness to please really shines through when working with our clientele.” In addition to the many things she does Shelly is currently heading up our ON SITE blind and drapery cleaning portion of the business and, to better serve in that role, she is a certified technician.

Annie McGuire, our “Girl Friday,” keeps everything flowing to ensure that the products are installed in a timely, professional manner. With her 30 years of administrative experience Annie adds a wealth of professionalism to the Sedona Window & Flooring Solutions team. Since joining us she has attended several window covering seminars and is doing a great job working with customers in the show room.

Justin Wingrove completes the staff. Wingrove, our full-time professional installer, has been with the business for more than two years. He has been certified by Hunter Douglas for installation and repair of all of their products. We consistently receive compliments on Justin’s friendly, courteous, and professional manner from delighted customers. Justin is also a certified technician for ON SITE cleaning.
